SUFFOLK – Henry Clifton Murden Sr. died Aug. 11, 2003 at Obici Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1919, in Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Charles Holt and Imogen Ball Murden and the widower of Catherine Gillis Murden. After graduation from Suffolk High School, he attended Louisburg College and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Mr. Murden recently celebrated his 50th anniversary with the Suffolk court system and served as clerk of the Suffolk Circuit Court until his death. He was also a former clerk of the Suffolk City Council. He was a member of the Virginia Clerks Association, the Nansemond-Suffolk Historical Society and the Jolly Boys. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and served in the Army during World War II. Survivors include his son, Henry Clifton Murden, Jr. and his wife Joan; granddaughter, Laura Catherine Murden of Onancock, Va.; a sister, Imogen M. Klein of Salem, VA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Robert J. Parks.
