W.V. Savage, former pastor of the Churchland Baptist Church, died suddenly at eleven o’clock Tuesday night, November 16, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. T.C. Hathaway, 51 Decatur Street, Cradock. She had gone on Tuesday to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Savage, 3rd, in Churchland for a visit; and on her return to the home of her daughter in Cradock she suffered a stroke and died in a short time. Mrs. Williams was a native of North Carolina, but had made her home in Churchland for many years. She was the sister-in-law of Mrs. J.L. Camp, Sr., of this town, and had numerous relatives here. In addition to her daughter she is survived by two sons, Robert R. Savage of Churchlalnd and W. Vann Savage of “Green Acres,” Norfolk County; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services for Mrs. Savage were conducted from Churchland Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock by Rev. R.E.L. Aler, pastor of the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
