L. Simmons Dies Capt. Edward Lee Simmons aged 71 years who for 18 years was employed by the Portsmouth-Norfolk county ferries as a pilot died in a Norfolk hospital Saturday morning at 8 o'clock, after an illness of one week. He had been in ill health for the past year. Captain Simmons resided at Carrollton. He had lived in this section for about 50 years and was a native of North Carolina. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nannie E. Johnson Simmons. He held membership in the Smithfield Baptist Church and the Masonic order, being affiliated with the Smithfield lodge. The body was removed to the Charles H. Meyers Funeral Home, 720 Court Street, Portsmouth, where funeral services will be conducted. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
