"Four brothers came from Scotland, settled in Maryland, moved to North Carolina before the Revolution. ( I ) believe they fought in that war. Andrew Arnett b.1792 N.C. was the youngest of seven brothers who settled in seven different states. Enlisted 1812 from Tenn. under Andrew Jackson, and was his Secretary, but took field at New Orleans. Moved to Illinois where his father had moved, (and) helped organize that territory into a state. Member of the First Legislature (m.1815) Son, James b.1816 Ill. migrated to N.E. Missouri in 183. Joined Scottish Highlanders from NC. and had 11 children between James, and William including twin boys, and twin girls. m. Elizabeth Brelsford after the death of his first wife and had Johnson William, Albert Alvin, and, I believe, two daughters. Was Judge of County Court & Cival War (Court)." "Johnson William Arnett, b12/27/1846, Scotland Co., MO, prisoner, oldest son of Andrew, married Mary Ann Hamilton and had John Andrew, Ernest G. Arthur A., W. Albert, Lillian, Clarence(died), Alvin and five others, 6 of whom are dead (now)." "John Andrew Arnett b.7/9/1871, oldest son of Johnson W. Arnett m. Marion Elizabeth Stamm... and had; Ruth Washington 2/22/1899, an Un named 1902, and Wesley Hamilton 2/10/1904..." "One of my fathers much older half sisters name was Jane. I am quite sure we are the descendants of Valentine Arnett, as I remember the name being mentioned by my father, his family bible, or (from) an account of a wedding anniversary that I had. It spoke of Silas White Arnett and the Witherspoons. " "I think my grandfather may have lived in Schuyler County before he went to Scotland County, Missouri. I think father, his mother, two sisters and young brother lived in Schuyler Co. after their father's death. I suspect that John D. Arnett of Sctoland Co, MO. was the son of Andrew." I trust, Mrs. Reed, that the foregoing will be of assistance to you in some small way at least. If you are able to reciprocate with any additional data, I shall certainly appreciate it and hasten to express my thanks. Yours, very truly, /Signed/ Wesley H. Arnett
