Olive Baptist Church Cemetery is located on YMCA Camp Road, King, Stokes Co., NC at the original site of Mt. Olive Church. The exact date Mount Olive Baptist Church was established is unknown. In 1804 County Court records refer to a road being built from Cook's Meeting House on the Little Yadkin River to the Quaker Road. It is possible, as the location is in the same general area, that Cook's Meeting House became Mount Olive Meeting House. However, there is no proof of this. The first record of Mount Olive Meeting House was a listing of the marriage of John Arney and Polley Boyles, held there in September of 1812. According to county court records there was an election held in Mount Olive Meeting House to elect school committeemen in 1839. School was held in the church from 1840 until 1889, except during the Civil War. The final burial in this cemetery was in or around 1925. Today, this cemetery is known as "Old Mt. Olive Church Cemetery." Mt. Olive Baptist Church is currently located at the intersection of present day Chestnut Grove Rd. and Highway 66. This church was built and first services held in 1889. Boyles:In the 1880 census for Stokes Co., NC, Yadkin township, enumeration district 251, image 0592, we find a Hugh A. Boyles, 32, his wife Martha A., age 26, along with children Rose L.,7, Delia A.,5, and Martha A.,1. I feel that the Martha L. stone is that of this last child. Note for John and Charity Boyles: John and Charity Ferguson Boyles lost six sons during the Civil War. In the 1880 Census for Stokes Co., NC, Yadkin Township are found John and Charity, plus their remaining children Mary A. 40, and Wade H. 24, daughter-in-law (of unknown son) Mary A. 40, and grandchildren James J. 18, and Nathaniel S. 15. Notes R.R. and M. C. Boyles (parents who lost several infants and young children): Found in the 1880 Census for Stokes Co., NC, Yadkin township, enumeration district 251, image 0582 are Riley R. and Mary C. Boyles, along with 5 sons, ages 2 to 12. Notes for Gibsons: I think perhaps some of the Gibson's are part of 1 family. In the 1860 Stokes Co., census, page 109, image 218, we find the Hardy and Mary Gibson family, whose children include James, age 3. This trend holds for the 1870 census. However, I could not find Eliza in the 1860 census anywhere in Stokes Co. Finally, in 1880, we get the Hardie C. and Mary W. Gibson listing, along with James C. Note for B. W. Pullam: In the 1850 census for Stokes Co., NC, Sauratown district, page 140, image 282, we find Benj W. Pulliam, wife Louisa, and children Mary, 6 and William, 4. Notes for William, Simon, and Martha L. Pull(i)am: In the 1850 census for Stokes Co., Shores Reed district, we find William P. Pulliam, wife Elizabeth,60, and son Simeon L.,18. In the 1860 census for Stokes Co., NC, Danbury Post office, pg. 129, image 258, we find Simeon and Martha Pullam along with their children Bettie, 7, Mary, 5, and John, 2. Notes for the W. M. Watts family: In the 1870 census of Stokes Co., NC, Yadkin district, Martin’s Lime Kiln township, we find Watts M. Watts with wife Lucy Ann, and children Martha, 8,and Eliza E., 3. Following them into 1880, we find that W. M. is now listed as William M. instead of Watts M. In the Stokes census, district 251, image 0589, we find William, wife Mary E., daughter Eliza E.,13, Emma R.,4, and sons James H.,3, William C.,2, and Squire O.,1. (1).
