Smith Smith Tonzo 1893 1893 Son of W. L. and M. A. Smith 'At rest' Additional Comments: It is possible that her husband’s name was Francis Slate, who remarried about 1898 to a Josie (1900 US Census, Meadows, Stokes Co., NC). If this is true, he and Laura had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, ages 4-10. It is possible that Levata and Tonzo Smith, children of W.L. and M. A. Smith are the children of William L. and Melissa A. Smith. In the 1910 census, they were living in Boyles, Stokes Co., NC. and stated Melissa had given birth to 8 children, only 5 of whom were living. Additionally, their youngest child, a girl, was named Tonza. In 1900, William and Melissa stated they had given birth to 7 children, 5 of whom were living. Their first child was born in Feb of 1884, so it would be feasible that Levada could have arrived in 1885. There also is a gap in years from a son born in 1891 to a daughter born in 1897— again, Tonzo, born in 1893, would fit. Dewitt F. Tillotson and wife Elizabeth were married within the year of the 1880 US census. They were living in Yadkin township, Stokes Co., NC, beside a Bethenia Tillotson, widowed, possibly Dewitt’s mother. On December 5th of that year, Elizabeth gave birth to twins: one did not survive birth, and the other, Adie L. lived almost 14 years before she died. In 1900, Dewitt and Elizabeth were making their home in the Yadkin township of Stokes Co., NC. At home were 4 children, Squire Fountain (1882), Ola (1885), Martha (1887) and Arry (1895). Also in residence were Pinkney Boyles and James King, listed as farm laborers. 1910 saw Dewitt and Elizabeth living in Boyles, Stokes Co., NC. He and Elizabeth had been married 31 years; 7 children had been born to them, but only 4 were still alive. At home were Squire (who was a practicing physician), and his wife Martha, daughter Arrie, and Dewitt’s and Elizabeth’s adopted sons, Charles Barker and Doctor Page. In 1930, Dewitt, now widowed, was living in the home of his daughter and son- in-law, Arrie and Floyd Long, in Yadkin Township, Stokes Co., NC. H. Jane Smith was the wife of John E. Smith. In 1880, they were living in Yadkin district of Stokes Co., NC where John was listed as a farmer, also listing a disability of flux. The infant son of R. R. and D. F. Smith possibly refers to Robert and Dora Florence Smith, who in 1900 were living in Yadkin Township, Stokes Co., NC. They had married in 1890 and had living at home: Rufus (1892), Frank (1894), Jennie, (1897) and Maggie (1899). In 1910, Robert and Dora state that they had given birth to 7 children, only 6 of whom were living. Tabitha J. Smith was the wife of Ellis Smith. In 1860, Ellis and Tabitha were in Stokes Co., at home with children William, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Nancy, and Mary. In 1870, Tabitha and Ellis were in Yadkin, Stokes Co., NC. At home were William, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Ellen, Martha, Laura, and Robert. 1880 found the couple in Yadkin, Stokes Co., NC with children William (1850), Martha(1863), Laura (1867), Robert (1869).
