COUNTY                 Dec.  Term, 1844

JAMES DAVIS, WILLIAM DAVIS, MARY SALMONS, JANE COVINGTON, BETHENIA EASON, 
WINSTON CARTER and his wife, MARGARET CARTER

         VS. 

JAMES DEARING and his wife, REBECCA; WILLIAM DEARING, JAMES DEARING, JR., 
MARGARET DEARING; SUSANNAH EASON, BETHENIA EASON, CARTER T. EASON; ELEANOR 
EASON, REBECCA EASON, MARGARET EASON, JANE EASON and DISDIANA EASON

Petition for a Division of Slaves

It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the defendant, JAMES 
DEARING and his wife,REBECCA; WILLIAM DEARING, JAMES DEARING, JR., MARGARET 
DEARING; SUSANNAH EASON, BETHENIA EASON, CARTER T. EASON; ELEANOR EASON, 
REBECCA EASON, MARGARET EASON, JANE EASON and DISDIANA EASON, are not 
inhabitants of this State: It is therefore ordered by the Court that 
publication be made for six successive weeks in the Patriot, printed in 
Greensboro, for  the said defendant, to be notified  to  appear at our next 
Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to be held for the County of Stokes in the 
Court House at Germanton,  on the 2nd Monday in March , then and there to 
plead, answer or demur. Otherwise, judgment final  will be entered against him 
and the property levied on, condemned to satisfy the Plaintiff’s debt.

Witness, JOHN HILL , Clerk of said Court, at office in Germanton, on the 2nd  
Monday in December  A.D., 1845.
