JOSEPH PHILIPS, NATHAN PHILIPS, ANDREW PHILIPS, JESSE PHILIPS, ALEXANDER HAGE 
and his wife, NANCY; ELI WHICKER and his wife, ELIZABETH; LITTLEBERRY WHICKER 
and his wife, MARY; SQUIRE LEDFORD and his wife, RHODA and REUBEN D. GOLDING, 
Guardian Pendente Lite for SARAH MARIA PHILIPS

Petition for Dower 

It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that ALEXANDER HAGE and his 
wife, NANCY, are not inhabitants of this state: it is therefore ordered by the 
Court that publication be made for six successive weeks in the Patriot, 
printed in Greensboro, for the said defendants, to be notified to appear at 
our next Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to be held for the County of Stokes 
in the Court House at Germanton, on the 2nd Monday in December next, then and 
there to plead, answer or demur. Otherwise, the petition will be taken pro 
confesso and heard ex parte as to them. 

Witness, REUBEN D. GOLDING, Clerk of said Court, at office in Germanton, on 
the 2nd Monday in September, A.D., 1840.
