STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA   COURT OF PLEAS & QUARTER SESSIONS   STOKES  COUNTY   
March Term, 1847            

JAMES W. SCALES et al

         VS. 

JOHN SCALES and others 

Probate of JOSEPH H. SCALES’ will; Issue devisavit vel non

It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the  defendants, are not  
inhabitants of this State: It is therefore ordered by the Court that 
publication be made for six successive weeks in the Patriot, printed in 
Greensboro, for  the said defendant, to be notified  to  appear at our next 
Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions to be held for the County of Stokes in the 
Court House at Germanton,  on the 2nd Monday in June  next , then and there to 
plead, answer or demur. Otherwise judgment will be heard ex parte as to them 

Witness, JOHN HILL , Clerk of said Court, at office in Germanton, on the 2nd  
Monday in March  A.D., 1847.
