The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ============================================================= This Indenture made this eighth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and nineteen between Elijah Harrold of the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina of the one part, and John Harold of the County and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Elijah Harrold for and in consideration of the sum twenty five dollars to him in hand paid by the said John Harrold, the receipt is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said John Harold a certain tract or parcel of land being in the county of Stokes on the waters of Muddy Creek, beginning at a black oak near a Road, the south west barns of Jacob Robinson's line, then South on Thomasson's lines, ten chains to a black, Seagles? former corner, then North eighty degrees East, on said line thirty three chains, crossing the meadow branch to a post oak, thence west on Harold's line, and said Robinson's line to the beginning. containing fifteen acres together with all the rights claims and interests of the said Elijah Harold of in and to said tract of land and premises. To have and to hold unto the said John Harold, his heirs and executors and assigns to the only purpose, and behoof of the same John Harold, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Elijah Harold doth for himself his line executors and administrators, covenant and agree to [ ? ] with the said John Harold that he the same John Harold his heirs and assigns shall and may forever hereafter peacefully and quietly have hold use occupy enjoy and possess the said described tract of land and premise with every part article and appurtenance thereunto belonging, free and clear from all hindrance molestation or encumbrances whatever, from him the said Elijah Harold, his heirs assigns and administrators binding and oblige himself and every of them, the said described land and premises, with every part and article thereunto pertaining against himself and every of them, and against all other persons whatever unto the said John Harold his heirs and assigns to warrant and former defense; In witness whereof the said Elijah Harold hath set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above nentioned. Moore, Clerk NOTES Note (1): Although Elijah Harrold's name is spelled "Harold" through this document, he is identified to be Elijah Harrold, b. 1771, son of Richard Harrold and Mary Pitts and grandson of Jonathan Harrold and Catherine Hiatt, and great grandson of Richard Harrold and Mary Beals. He married Nancy Hendricks in Stokes County, April 20, 1812. Note (2): John Harrold, mentioned herein as the grantee, is John Harrold, brother of Elijah Harrold. He married Rachel Reynolds in 1809. Note (3): Jonathan Harrold, witness, is a brother of Elijah Harrold, grantor. He married Margaret Schooley, July 13, 1796 Note: (4): Samuel C. Harrold, Witness, is the son of Jonathan and Margaret [Schooley] Harrold (above), born June 27, 1797 Note: (5) The date given when the deed was proven is 1879.
