   COL. EMANUEL SHOBER died suddenly and unexpectedly of paralysis at his 
residence in Salem on Sunday night last. He represented his native county of 
Stokes for several years in the State Legislature, was a lawyer of known and 
tried integrity, business and industrious habits and unsullied reputation. He 
was in his 58th year, and was an efficient member of the State Convention in 
1835, when the Constitution of the State was amended.
