Devised November 17, 1825, Proven March Term, 1826. In the Name of God Amen, I John Ledford of Stokes County Being of Sound and Perfect mind and Rememory Blessed be God 17th day of November 1825 in the year of our Lord I make Publish my Last Will and testament in manner following that is to say First of all my Executor to Pay all my Lawfull Debts I give to my son Buis one Cartain [certain] part of my Land to Begin on the East and West Line Near the mouth of a branch on said Line to Run on the E[d]ge of upland of said branch to a Large Poplar stump thence East to my Line thence North to a[n] old stump standing at the Corner of the flat field thence West Runing A Long the e[d]ge of What is called the flat field to my Line and I give to my son Spruce M. all my Land on the North end from my son Buis Line and my New big Waggon. I give to my son Buis and to my son Spruce M. Equally between the two above mentioned. I give to my daughter Phebe S. rny Land Lying on the South End of my track joining Buis Lines Lade [laid] off to him in said Will but I give to my Wife Grizzalah all my Land and Plantation Lying on the East side of the Branch Runing through My Planation and my New big Waggon and one black girl Named Dinah during her Natur[a]l Life time Widow hood and after she is done with the black girl Dinay then I give her to my two sons Buis and Spruce M. and further I give my Wife Grizzalah two beds and beding one mare Named Flin two kows [cows] and the Bool [bull] all the hogs and Crap table the big best meat tub and Cabage tub and two barrels the big Wheel and the best Little W[h]eel and the Worst Little Wheel four Chears [chairs] cotten cards big and little pot one dutch oven the dresser and further furniture and all my mon[e]y in hand and in Notes and one hundred dollars to be Paid out of What Will not be mentioned by Name in said Will and Her Saddle and two Pare [pair] of hames and traces one Ax two hoes two bed steds and dog irons And I give to my daughter Phebe S. one black Boy named Ellace one kow (cow) and calf called hers and two beds and bedings and two bed steds called hers one Little Wheel called hers Cards Saddle the flat skillet and the dish coffee pot and other furniture called hers and the sorrel Colt. I give to my daughter Martha W. one black girl Named Rosy Meriah and two beds and bedings and the best bed stead one Kow (cow) called Buis kow one Little Wheel and her New Cards and one Hundred dollars to be paid out of What I did not mention by name in said Will above and Martha W. to have her maintenance from of her Mother till she Comes to the age of twenty one if she Donte marr[i]age till then and her black girl and the Little Chest and Loom and all the Loom affares [affairs]. I give to daughter my Nancy daughter one black girl Named Seenah I give to my son Spruce M. one horse named ball one young heifer one ax shouvel and bar shear one hoe one Maddock and all my Warrring [wearing] Cloaths and dung shouvel and hay fork I give to my son John one Little Waggon my Law book I tive to my daughter Rebeckaer, to my daughter Betsy, to my daughter Suzzanah, my son William, my son John And my Daughter Grizzalah the Remainder of my Estate Property Which I have not mentioned in this said Will above to be Equally divided amongst them besides the hundred dollars I give to my Wife Grizzalah and besides the hundred dollars I give to my daughter Martha W. and my Lawfull debts to be paid out of the Remainder Which I give to them mentioned in this said Will above. I hereby make and ordain my son John Ledford Executor of My Last Will and testament in Witness Whereof I the said John Ledford have to this my Last Will and testament set my hand seal day and year above Written. Recorded 145 Look at the minute Docket for whom this Was proved by [Recorded Copy] Stokes County March Term 1826 The foregoing is a true copy of the last will and testament of John Ledford Note: John Ledford was residing in that part of Stokes County, NC (formed 1789) which subsequently became Forsyth County, NC (1849).
