I George Ray of the County of Stokes and State of North Carolina being at present of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God: do this fourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and twenty five make ordain and publish this my last will and testament that is to say. First of all when I depart this life I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my to the dust from whence it came to be buried in a Christian like manner and form to be divided among and between my beloved wife Mary and children (to wit) Elizabeth who intermarried to John Vest, Rebecca who intermarried to William Barr Anna who intermarried to John Barr and Ruth who is now single and my grandchild Eleanor the daughter of William Barr. First I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter Ruth my clock and cupboard extra and to be valued to her and its contents and a slave or slaves to be valued together the land which I have heretofore made her ahead the land at the price of five hundred dollars so as to give her an equal part or share with my two daughters Elizabeth and Anna which they have heretofore received of my estate all which they must ascertain and account for in this settlement when the dividends shall be made. Secondly, I only give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca who intermarried to William Barr one dollar over and above what I have heretofore given and paid for them out of my estate ahead. I believed is over and above the amount that any of the others will receive and this shall be Rebecca’s full share of my estate. Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Eleanor aforesaid one featherbed and furniture out of my estate. Fourthly, After paying all my just debts to whom I may be indebted at the day of my death I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my estate both real and personal to my beloved wife Mary and three children after to wit Elizabeth Anna and Ruth first above mentioned and this to be equally divided share and share alike between them but it is my will and desire that all the above mentioned remaining part of my estate shall be and remain in the possession of my beloved wife for and during her natural life and that her fourth part of the farm if she should out live myself that she shall have of the said fourth part of her own discretion which division when made shall be done by three respectable free holding to chosen by my executors as so on as possible after the death of my beloved wife Mary or after my dissolution if she should depart this life before myself then and in that case the whole of the said remaining part of my estate to be equally divided into three parts among and between my children Elizabeth Anna and Ruth aforesaid. Fifthly and lastly I nominate and appoint my two sons-in-law John Vest and John Barr Executors and my daughter Ruth Executrix of this my last will and Testament In testimony whereof I this said George Ray hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal to this his last will and testament and acknowledge the same before us the Subscribing witnesses who were present at George Ray Signing and acknowledging thereof J.
