JAMES MATHIS, JOHN MATHIS, HEZEKIAH MATHIS, WM. PARNEL and his wife, MATILDA 
PARNEL, MARY MATHIS, SAMUEL AXUM and his wife, WINNY AXUM, JAMES FLEETWOOD and 
his wife, RANCY FLEETWOOD, and REBECCA MATHIS


 Petition for the sale of lands belonging to the estate of HEZEKIAH MATHIS, 
SR., deceased 

It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the  defendants, SAMUEL 
AXUM and his wife, WINNY AXUM, JAMES FLEETWOOD and his wife, RANCY 
FLEETWOOD,,  are   not inhabitants of this state: it is therefore ordered by 
the Court that publication be made for six successive weeks in the Patriot, a 
newspaper printed in Greensboro, that unless the said Defendants appear at our 
next Court to be held for the County of Surry  in the Court House at Rockford  
2nd Monday in February   next ,   and  plead, answer, or demur to this 
petition, judgment will be taken pro confesso and heard ex parte as to them.

November A. D. , 1848
