Mountain Tigers Of Surry County
The Weekly Standard of Raleigh, N. C.  of 12 June 1861
                                                  FOR THE STANDARD
MR. HOLDEN: The fourth company of volunteers raised in old Surry, styled the 
MOUNTAIN TIGERS met here today for the purpose of organizing. After the most 
fervent and eloquent prayer I ev er heard by W.H. ADAMS, one of the 
volunteers, they proceded to the election of officers, when DR. JAS. R. WAUGH 
was unanimously elected Captain, J.H. JONES, 1st Lieutenant; W. H. JENKINS, 
2nd Lieutenant; W.H. ADAMS, 3rd Lieutenant; N.H. GWYN, 1st sergeant; A.M. 
JOHNSON, 2nd Lieutenant; W.M. MARTIN, 3rd Sgt.; A. CHATHAM, 4th Sgt., D. C. 
WOLFF, 1st Corp'l; D.J. COCKERHAM, 2nd Corp'L; H.L. GILLESPIE, 3rd Corp'l; 
A.P.SHORE, 4th Corp'l
