Surry County, NC - Edwin Hickman Revolutionary War Pension, 1838 November 16, 1926 Lyon G. Tyler Holdcroft, Virginia Sir: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim S.8712 it appears that Edwin Hickman was born August 9, 1762 in Culpeper County, Virginia. While a resident of Surry County, North Carolina, he enlisted in June 1780 and served seven or eight weeks as a private in Captain Absalom Bostwick's Company, Colonel James Martin's North Carolina Regiment. He enlisted in the spring of 1781 and served ten weeks as private in Captain James Gains' Company, under Major Joseph Winston in the North Carolina Troops and was in the battles of Allamance and Whitesall's Mills. He enlisted, served three months as private in Captain Humphries' Company, Colonel James Martin's North Carolina Regiment and was discharged November 15, 1781, after which he served two or three weeks in Captain Gains' Company, Colonel William Sheppard's North Carolina Regiment. He was allowed pension on his application executed December 15, 1832 while a resident of Stokes County, North Carolina, where he was still living in 1855. There is no data on file as to his family.
