Surry County, NC - Sterling Rose Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ February 26, 1925 Mrs. H.F. Hoves Savannah, GA Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in Revolutionary War pension claim S.4132 that Sterling Rose was born in November 1757 in King and Queen County, Virginia. While a resident of Surry County (later Wilkes Cunty) North Carolina, he enlisted and served in the North Carolina Troops as follows: From 1777 twenty days as Corporal in Captain Jesse Walton's Company under Colonel Martin Armstrong. From the fall of 1778 three months as Corporal under Captain John Cleveland. From the spring or summer of 1779 two months as Corporal under Captain Jarvis and Colonel Charles Gordon. From August 1779 two months as Orderly Sergeant under Lieutenant William Gray, Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, and was at the destroying of Indian Town on the Tennessee and Hiwassee Rivers. From December 1779 one month as Oederly Sergeant under Captain Benjamin Herndon, Colonel Benjamin Cleveland. From the spring of 1780 one and one half months as Orderly Sergeant under Captain John Clevelend and Major Hargrove. About two weeks as Orderly Sergeant under Captain Benjamin Herndon. From September or October 1780 two months as Orderly Sergeant in Captain Benjamin Herndon's Company, Colonel Benjamin Cleveland's Regiment. He was allowed pension on his application executed July 31, 1832 while a resident of Wilkes County, North Carolina. It is not stated whether soldier ever married.
