Surry County, NC - John Rose Revolutionary War Pension, 1832 ~~~~~~~~~~ May 25, 1923 Fennie Ratchford Austin, Texas Madam: I advise you that from the papers in Revolutionary War pension claim W.18824 it appears that John Rose was born in 1750 in Southampton County, Virginia. While a resident of Surry County, North Carolina, he enlisted in the summer or fall of 1779 as private under Captain Jarvis and Colonel Charles Gordon and served two months. In December 1779 he was under Captain Benjamin Herndon and Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, one month. In 1780, under Captain John Cleveland and Major Hargraves; three months. From September 1780 under Captain Herndon, went to King's Mountain, served three months. About the close of the war under Captains Isbille and Colonel Isaacs he served three months. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 6, 1832 while a resident of Surry County, North Carolina. Soldier married in June 1772 in Surry County, North Carolina, Rachel, daughter of William Sparks. He died April 23, 1843 and the widow Rachel was allowed pension on her application executed July 29, 1843 while a resident of Surry County, near the Wilkes County line, aged eighty-nine years.
