Airy Citizen Dies At Home Mount Airy, Sept. 18 - J.R. Paddison, one of the city's oldest and most prominent citizens, died at his home here about 8:30 o'clock last night. Mr. Paddison had been ill for several months. Mr. Paddison came to Mount Airy about 30 years ago from Point Caswell, Pender County, engaging in the mercantile business. He retired from active business life about four years ago. He was a member of Central Methodist church and served as superintendent of the Sunday school of the church for more than 15 years. He was an active member of the Masonic fraternity and fought throughout the war between the states. Mr. Paddison is survived by a wife and six sons.
