I, John Hutchens, of the County of Surry and State of North Carolina being weak of body tho in my perfect mind and understanding calling to with the certainty of immortality, I will and desire that my wordly affairs may (and is to be) settled in manner due to mankind. I will and bequeath (invoking all former wills by me made) that my beloved wife Jane Hutchens, is to have one hundred and twenty five acres of land taking in my Dwelling House where I now live adjoining the lands of Jonathan Haines during her life or widowhood and like wise all the stock, house hold and kitchen furniture of every description, excepting things otherwise disposed of by me John Hutchens. After she my beloved wife Jane is taken from time or married to any person, then my son Ellis and my daughter Quintilly to have the one hundred and twenty five acres of land equally divided between my son and daughter before mentioned. My son Ellis to have the west part of the one hundred and twenty five acres of land and my daughter Quintilly the east part of the land, or the Heirs of their bodies. Also it is my will that after the use of my movable property and effects is out of use by marriage or widowhood that the movable property and effects to be equally divided between my six youngest children to wit: John, Jesse, Balis, Quintilly, Elkanah and Ellis Hutchens. It is my will that Jesse Hutchens to have one black mare and one cow to be taken of my effects now in being to them before named their heirs, etc. I also will that my beloved children named Nancy George, Aggatha Hudspeth, Jonathan Hutchens, Susanah Bills, Mary Bills, Elizabeth Cain, Thomas Hutchens, Strangeman Hutchens, William Hutchens and Patrick Hutchens, they above named to have the sum of Six Shillings and besides what I have already given them. This is my last will and testament appointing my Wife Jean, my son Elkanah Hutchens, and Joshua Patterson my Executors and Executres agreeable to my will. I have set my hand and Seal in presence of William Zachary and Thomas Gough this eightenth day of September in the year 1824 of our Lord, one thousand eight and twenty four.
