Surnames: COOK, MARSHALL, JESSOP, BOLES, PFAFF, GARDNER In the name of God Amen this 4th day of December 1828 I James Cook of the county of Surry and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testement at the same time utterly revoking all former wills made by me declaring this to be my last will and testement. First I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Cook the tract of land on which I now live during her widowhood. Also the household furniture and kitchen furniture. Also the choice of horses out of ____ and all the rest of the stock _____ sheep, cattle, & hogs. And if my beloved wife should marry then the above mentioned property to be equally divided between my children Nancy, Jemima & Abel Cook, my children and my two grandchildren Isom, son of Eliz. Sawyers & James, son of Anna Simmons, best understood the tract of land of whitch I now live purchased of William Marshall. The adjoining land I purchased of Jacob Jessop I give and bequeath to my son Abel Cook of whitch he is to enjoy a full possession after my beloved wife joins in marriage and if she never marrys after her decese. Until then she is to enjoy full possession tho not as to deprive my son Abel of enjoying a reasonable part of the afforsaid land during his mothers claims. The mill tract of land in the county & state afforsaid is to be equally divided between my two grandsons afforsaid including mill & all the therto belonging at the time when they are twenty one years of age. I appoint my son John Cook to conduct Knowland Plantation and Mill to the best advantage so long as said grandsons are not of proper age to receive the same and the proffits thereof arising therefrom to be applied to the use of said sons for schooling & also one horse bridle and saddle and rifle gun to each of them after they come of age. I will to my daughter, Ursula Cook two hundred & twelve dollars and fifty cents to be paid in trade at trade value to be payed by my executors in three years from the date hereof. I will to my daughter Nancy one dollar, to my son John one dollar, to my son James one dollar, to my son Isom one dollar, to my daughter Elizabeth one dollar, to my daughter Sally one dollar, to my daughter Polly one dollar, to my daughter Clary one dollar, to my daughter Anna one dollar, to my daughter Jemima one dollar, to my daughter Dicy one dollar, to my daughter Sibel one dollar, to my daughter Ursula one dollar, to my daughter Bethelsy one dollar, to my son Abel one dollar, to my grandson James, son of Anna Simmons, one hundred dollars with interest from the date hereof. At the same time I do appoint my son John and Nathan Boles being both of the county & state afforsaid joint executor of this my last will and testement to which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day & date above written being September the 4th day in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Eight.
