Born in Balsam Grove, NC, Curtis had been a Hampton resident snce the early 1940s. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Curtis was a dedicated longtime employee for many years as a cabinet maker. He was a faithful member of Pine Chapel Baptist Church and was an avid musician. He played with the Pine Valley Boys and devoted his whole life to family, friends, carpentry and helping others. All those who met him were inspired by his humanity. He was preceded iin death by his first wife, Martha Miller Owen, and second wife, Peggy Beasley. A devoted father and grandfather, he leaves to cherish his memory, his son, William Curtis Owen and his wife, Linda, of Newport News; daughters, Janie Passaro and her husband, Allan, Patsy Davis, Vicky Ellis and her husband, David, and Rose Spencer and her husband, Wayne, all of Hampton; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Dick, Bobby and Eddie Beasley. A service to celebrate Curtis's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends are encouraged to visit www.mem.com to sharie memories or words of comfort with the family.
