Maarbjerg In the name of God Amen. The twenty seventh Day of February one thousand seven hundred and forty seven, I William Tarkington of Tyrrell County in the Province of North Carolina Planter, being sick and weak in body but perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to God for the same. Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and keeping in mind it is appointed for all men once to Dye, do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say, Principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God who gave it me. And my Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in decent Burial at the Discretion of my Executors. Nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly Estate Wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this Life, I Give Demise and Discharge of the same in the following Manner and Forme. Imprimis. I give and bequeath to Anne, my Dearly Beloved wife One third part of all my Household Goods, Debts and Movable Effects and the use of my House and Plantation during the rest of her Natural Life. Item. I give and bequeath to John my well beloved son Beginning at Sheep Neck Branch on the Porcosan and following the said Branch where it leads to Gaylors Pond and straight through the said Pond to Batchelors Folly and keep then the said branch westerly to the Porcosan and so along the Porcasan to the first Station(?). Item. I give and bequeath to Joshua my well beloved son a parcel of land beginning at Batchelors Folly through from there to my outside Line through Will Casons ..... to my Cross Line and along the said Line westerly to the Percosan then bonding [bounding] on the Percosan and his brothers Johns Line to the first Station. Item. I give and bequeath to Benjamin and Joseph my well beloved sons a parcel of land beginning at James Browns on the Percosan and coming up to J.P. Bonner and their brothers Johns Line then along the said Line to their brothers Joshuas Line and then along the said line to the Cross Line then along the said line Easterly to the Dareing(?) hickery then along the said Branch south side to Thomas Wynnes line then along the said line to the Percosan then bonding on the said Percosan to the first Station. Item. I give and bequeath to William & Zebulon my sons a parcel of land including my Plantation being the Remainder part of my land within the bounds aforesaid to be equally divided between them together with my dwelling house. Item. I give and Bequeath to my Well Beloved Daughter Mary three head of cattle two head of old sheap. Item. And all the remainder part of my Movable Estate I give and bequeath to be Equally Divided between my Daughters Anne, Sarah, Joanna and the rest of my sons before named, after Discharging all my Lawful Debts. And I do make and ordain Anne my well beloved wife my sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and I hereby utterly Disalow, revoke & Disannull all and Every Other former Testaments wills Legasies and Bequeaths, & Executors by me in any wise before named willed and bequeathed, Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
