W.G. Austin of Greenwood Chester, SC, Jan. 24 - Capt. William G. Austin, a former well-known resident of the New Hope section of Chester county, died Saturday morning at his home in Greenwood. Captain Austin had been slightly unwell for several days, but his death was altogether unexpected. Captain Austin was a native of the Santuc neighborhood of Union county, and was about 65 years old. He served in the Southern army throughout the war, losing an arm and testifying in other ways his devotion to the lost cause. After the war he completed his education and engaged for many years in teaching school. While teaching in the New Hope neighborhood he married the widow of the late Harper Carter, and of this union the following children were born: Mrs. Lillian Aldrich, Greenwood; Mr. James Austin, Abeville; Mr. Wade Austin. In the fall of 1891 Captain Austin and family moved to Greenwood where they had since made their home.
