Thurs. Feb. 26 , 1860, North Carolina Argus
   MR. SAMSON D. BELK, aged about 45 years, was killed on Friday, the 3rd 
inst., abouot six miles from Monroe, in Union County, by a singular accident. 
He was with some hands cutting down a tree to make boards and had thrown some 
cross pieces for the trees to fall upon, so that it could be better sawn, and 
the tree in falling, broke the cross piece, which flew back some 20 to 30 feet 
and struck MR. BELK in the head, and killed him instantly, without leaving a 
mark of the blow. MR. BELK was a worthy citizen and left a widow and several 
children to lament his unexpected loss.
