MAY, ESQ., in the 57th year of his age. The deceased was in apparent good health to within a few hours of his death, when by an attack apoplexy, paralysius or disease of the heart, he was suddenly cut off Thursday by the relentless hand of death, his amiable family was unexpectedly overwhelmed in sorrow, grief and tears, deprived of their best friend. MAJOR MAY was a useful and valuable citizen, having discharged the various offices which he held in the County with credit to himself, and satisfaction to the Community. He had been for a number of years a Justice of the Peace; was last year one of the special Court for the County of Union, and at his death was one of the committee of finance, and also one of the Board of Common Schools, all of which offices, he filled with becoming dignity and ability. His habits of life were sober, industrious and peaceable; and as a Son of Temperance, he was true and unwavering. He united with the "Sons" some 10 years ago, and truly it may be said of him, "he never turned back." In the death of MAJOR MAY, the County of Union has been deprived of a useful and valuable citizen, esteemed and loved by many -- his neighbors of a sociable companion, his wife of a kind and affectionate husband, and his children of an ardent and devoted father.
