Jane Harkness v. Eli Harkness

Petition for Divorce

In this case, it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the 
defendant/defendants, Eli Harness reside beyond the limits of this State: It 
is therefore ordered by the Court that publication be made for six successive 
weeks in the Charlotte Journal notifying said defendant non-resident to be and 
Appear at our next Court of Superior Law to be held for said County at the 
Court House at Monroe on the 2nd Monday in February next. Then and there to 
plead, answer or demur to this petition filed: Otherwise judgment will be 
taken pro confesso and the matter will be heard ex parte will be made as to 
them.
Witness Joseph T. Draffin, Clerk of the said Court at office
on the 2nd Monday in August AD 1845
