Mrs. Hancock had come to Henderson about five weeks ago to be with her daughter, Mrs. H.J. Knight, during an operation. Three days after her arrival she was stricken and underwent an emergency major operation, from which she rallied, and apparently was recovering. She was suddenly stricken Thursday afternoon and died in a short time. Mrs. Hancock was born May 25, 1878, in Wake Forest, and was the widow of L.C. Hancock, who died five years ago. She had lived in Richmond the past 24 years. She had been ill about four weeks. Surviving are the following children; Mrs. Herbert J. Knight of Henderson; Mrs. R.W. Hamel and Mrs. Helen Mundin of Richmond, Va.; Clyde Hancock of the U.S. Army, recently returned from overseas; William Frank Hancock, ensign in the U.S. Navy, stationed at pearl harbor and H. Lee Hancock of Alexandria, Va.; also 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Surviving also are a brother, Ula E. Wilkerson of South Hill, Va.; and five sisters, Mrs. C.O. King, and Mrs. W.G. Collins, both of Henderson; Mrs. W.T. Clayton of Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Clifton Collins and Mrs. Maynard Paynter, both of Wise. Mrs. Hancock was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Services will be held at the First Methodist Church in Henderson Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. H.K. King, with interment following in Elmwood Cemetery here. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
