JOHN F. SMITHWICH

   HENDERSON – John F. Smithwich, 78, died April 17, in Moses H. Cone Hospital, 
Greensboro, N.C.  He was a native of Vance County, N.C., and a retired farmer. He 
had been visiting his son Rev. Edwin L. Smithwich, pastor of Southside Baptist 
Church in Greensboro.

   He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mamie Rose Smithwich, three sons; Rev. Edwin 
L. Smithwich, of Greensboro, James W. Smithwich of Henderson, N.C. and Caswell F. 
Smithwich of Franklin, Va., two brothers; James Smithwich of Vaiden, Miss., and 
Joel Smithwich of Chester, S.C., four sisters, Mrs. Mary Grissom of Henderson, 
N.C. , Mrs. Lulia Dew of Sanford, N.C., Mrs. Cora Dew of Lanchester, S.C., and 
Dr. Gladys Smithwich on the Presbyterian Mission Board presently serving in 
Africa. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.

   Funeral services were held at Broadston Presbyterian Church near Henderson, 
N.C., with Rev. Tobias officiating and burial followed in Browns Baptist Church 
nearby. Body was in Kesler Funeral Home, Henderson, N.C.
