Entered railway service 1877 as baggage-master and clerk in freight department 
Raleigh & Gaston Rd at Raleigh, NC, since which he has been consecutively 1878 
to 1893, agent and chief clerk to superintendent Western North Carolina Rd;
1893 to 1899, auditor Carolina & Northwestern Ry;
1899 to Sept. 20, 1905, auditor and traffic manager same road;
Sept. 20, 1905 to date, general freight and passenger agent same road;
is also general freight and passenger agent Caldwell & Northern Rd.
