Wake County, NC - Cemeteries File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Wake County USGenWeb CATAWBA SPRINGS CHURCH CEMETERY 1010 Road, Wake County, NC Surveyed by Shirley Olson, July 20, 2000 CATAWBA SPRINGS CHRISTIAN CHURCH, organized in 1802, is located at the intersection of TenTen Road (1010) and Blaney Franks Road, about 15 miles South of Raleigh, NC. From Hwy. 40 the Lake Wheeler exit or 401 South exit will take you directly to 1010, and then a right turn onto 1010 will very quickly bring you to the church and it’s adjacent cemetery. It is a fast developing area where tobacco fields are giving way to subdivisions. The road derives it’s name from the dairy farming Franks family, many of whom are interred at Catawba Springs Christian Church Cemetery. Their former dairy farm at Penny Road and Blaney Franks Road is now an enclave of large handsome homes with a view of Lake Wheeler. The cemetery is neat and well cared for and most of the headstones are in very good condition. A few are worn and difficult to read. They are positioned facing East or West, with some having inscriptions on the East side of the markers and some are inscribed on the West side. I will use "W" or "E" to note which side of the stone is inscribed. I will only comment on the condition of the marker if it is less than good. Note: There are "gaps" throughout the cemetery and a few sunken spots. Cemeteries are sad places to tally. There is the mother who lost her 3 babies, one after another; the woman who died on Mother's Day and the baby who died Christmas Day. Then the father who died the same year his son died and his wife had the sorrowful burden of burying not just her husband, but her son, and a few years later another son. There is a sense of death as part of life here in this last resting place of those who gave their names to the streets and roads in this still rural corner of Wake County, the farmers and merchants whose descendants are still to be found in the neighborhood. Facing the cemetery from Blaney Franks Road, starting at the corner at 1010 Rd., Front Row, ROW 1, from left to right: 1. HENRY LACY FRANKS, Jul 31, 1901- Aug 26, 1942 E 2.
