Wake County, NC - Cemeteries File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Shirley Olson Dec. 10, 2001 CEMETERY: HARRISON-POPE SURVEYED BY SHIRLEY & GORDON OLSON GLOLSON@ATTGLOBAL.NET LOCATION: Cary, NC, next to the clubhouse at Lochmere DIRECTIONS: Rte I South, exit at Hwy. 64, turn towards Cary, stay in rt. lane, turn rt, (South) on Kildaire Farm Rd. The Lochmere Subd. will be on your left as you go down Kildaire Farm Rd., and you will soon see the clubhouse parking lot. Enter the lot and park close to the street and sidewalk. Turn to your right from the sidewalk in front of the parking area and see a sign pointing into a wooded area,"Jogging Trail" and very close by, but completely obscured by trees and shrubbery, is a small cemetery, about 40'by 60', surrounded by a wrought iron fence. The cemetery is tidy and appears to be cared for. Honeysuckle grows over the fence on two sides and wild roses bloom near the gate. A major road in Cary connecting to 1-40 is named Harrison Avenue. 1. ROSANAH HARRISON, who departed this life July 15, 1865 2. BP 3. no inscription 4. LAP 5. Top is inscribed "MOTHER". 11. THOMAS J. HARRISON, August 21, 1843-July 11, 1913 12. BLANCHE HARRISON,,September 12,1871-Febniaty 6,1879 13. WILLIAM THOMAS HARRISON, November 2,1880-February 5,1881 11., 12., and 13. are on one headstone inscribed "Blessed are the pure in heart". Next to this stone are 2 small stones, WTH and BH There are 3 pillars of petrified tree trunks about 3 feet tall starting the next row and then 14. SARAH, wife of WILLIAM POPE, 1778-1858 16. WILEY M. POPE, August 21, 1901-February 22, 1951, tipped over 17. ERNEST J. POPE. February 5, 1900-December 9, 1931 18. WALTER C. POPE, May 31, 1885-February 3, 1931 19. SALLIE MAYNARD, wife of WILLIAM POPE, 1816-1900 20. ED. W. THOMPSON, son of ? C. THOMPSON, February 2, 1874-September 29, 1902 A tall stone, broken 21. HUBERT R. POPE, May 2, 1904-February 12, 1909 22. JAMES WESLEY POPE, April 6,1849-March 8,1916 23. VIRGINIA FLORENCE POPE, February 18,1862-May 25,1955 22. & 23. share a monument marked POPE.
