Wake County, NC - Cemeteries File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Shirley Olson King Family Cemetery, Mid Pines Rd., Swift Creek Twp., WAKE Co., NC Submitted by Shirley Olson , 28 May 2002 Latitude: 35° 44' 23" North Longitude: -78° 42' 02" West Directions: From the Gorman Street exit of I-40 turn south on Gorman St. (SR 1571) to the intersection with Tryon Road (SR 1009). Go east on Tryon Rd. 2/10 mi. to Mid Pines Rd. on your right, and then go 6/10 mi. down Mid Pines (SR 1372) to the cemetery location. On the right side of the road is the wooded area that is the location of the cemetery. It is just past 3008 Mid Pines Rd. I want to thank Nancy Watkins, whose husband is descended from William Joseph King, for sifting through old records and re-discovering this lost resting place of some of the King family. A small history: The first recorded King family member, Henry King, b. 1799, was married to Clara Rhodes, b. 1824. William Joseph King was their 2nd child. Others were: Caroline,b. 1829; Louise, b. 1833( m. William Vaughn); Francis, b. 1837; and Sarah Ann, b. 1839 ( m. William Jackson). William Joseph King and his wife Mary Jane had 10 children. . Their oldest daughter Louisa b. 1857 married Henry Clay Watkins. They are buried in nearby Macedonia Cemetery with their son Thomas. Thomas' wife Challie is buried at Inwood Baptist Church Cemetery. Other children of William Joseph King and Mary Jane Beasley were: Annie, b. abt. 1862; Amelia, b. abt 1863; Virginia, b. abt. 1865; Jane., b. abt 1866; Betty, b. abt. 1869 (m. Robert Goodwin); Samuel, b. Sep. 1872 (m. Vada,or Veta); Florence, b. 1875; and Lucy, b. abt. 1879 (m. Charles King. Only one child, Edward, is known to be buried with them in the King Cemetery. Description: There is no visible sign of the small cemetery that existed here. When the road was built the tombstones were broken and pushed to the side of the road. Many years have elapsed and it is doubtful any remnants of the stones remain. There is such heavy undergrowth at the site that it is not possible to search for any tombstone fragments, if any exist. From family records the following persons are buried at this location: King, William Joseph, b. 1830, d. (after Apr 8) 1904 King, Mary Jane Beasley, b. 6 June 1835, d. 29 Jul 1905 King, Edward, b. 1858, d. unknown, son of William Joseph & Mary Jane King Watkins, Twin babies, b./d. abt. 1911, children of Thomas & Challie Watkins Morrison, Alec, no dates (Or a relative of Alec Morrison) __________________________________________________________________________ USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
