Wake County, NC - Mt. Hope Cemetery - Introduction ~~~~~~~~~~ 2/4/2007 Mt. Hope Cemetery 1120 Fayetteville St. Raleigh, NC 27601-2527 Mt. Hope Cemetery is owned by the city of Raleigh, and is administered by Raleigh Parks & Recreation Dept. Within this department the Cemetery Division operates and maintains Mt. Hope Cemetery as well other cemeteries located on park properties. Mt. Hope is a large and very beautiful cemetery, carefully maintained. It has been in existence since 1872, and contains 34.3 acres (Wake Co. R.E. Data). Burial plots are available. Mt. Hope is located south of Raleigh at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and South Saunders Street, (Hwys. 70, 401, 50). The cemetery is barely visible from the highway. From Saunders Street: Turn east on to Prospect Avenue to access the cemetery. Parking is available. Records dating from 1937 were made available through the generosity of Mr. Wayne Schindler, City of Raleigh Parks Superintendent and Mr. Danny Morgan, Park Operations Supervisor, Cemetery Division. Records prior to 1937 were destroyed in a fire. No birth dates or death dates are recorded, names of the deceased and their burial dates are given. Plot locations are noted.
