Tuesday, 04 February 1840: two separate classified ads which ran adjacent in 
the same column on the same page:

NOTICE - Whereas, it has been reported through the County of Wake, that Henry 
Hill, Jr. was the person that shot young Mr. Cameron, three years past, as he 
was going from Raleigh to his Father's Plantation.

Be it known, that on this day, Henry Hill, Sen. appeared before us, William F. 
Smith & Solomon Wiggins, two of the acting Justices of the Peace in and for 
the County of Wake, and made oath that on the day young Cameron was shot, the 
said Henry Hill, Jr. came to his house early in the morning to help him pull 
Fodder and continued there until about 3 o'clock in the evening, when he then 
returned home.

NOTICE - Whereas, it has been reported in the City of Raleigh, and in the County 
of Wake, that Henry Hill, Jr. who is now confined in the Jail at Raleigh, some 
two or three years past, fell out with his wife and struck at her and killed his 
child, which report is false, and to stop said report from further circulation.

Be it known, that on this, the 21st day of December, 1839, Caroline Hill, wife of 
the said Henry Hill, Jr. appeared before us, William F. Smith and Solomon Wiggins, 
two of the acting Justices of the Peace in and for the County of Wake, and made 
oath that the above report is false and without foundation.
