Wake County, NC - Courts File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Meredith Clapper State of North Carolina} Court of Pleas & Quarter Wake County} Sessions August Session 1834 To the worshipful the Justices of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Session for said County. The petition of Ailey Poole, Jonathan, Anderson & Lewis Poole most humbly complaining respectfully represents to your worship that some time in the year A D 1834 her late husband William Poole who resided in the County of Wake aforesaid departed this life intestate leaving your petitioner his widow and the following children surviving him, (to wit) Jonathan Poole, Anderson Poole, Lewis Poole, Hardy Poole, William Poole, Caroline Poole, Jackson Poole, and Calvin Poole, his children and heirs at law surviving him and your petitioner further represents to your worship that her late husband the aforesaid William Poole deceased was at the time of his death seized in fee simple and possessed of the following tract of land, situate lying and being in the County of Wake aforesaid adjoining the lands of George Poole, the late Colonel William Polk, John H. Jones, James Wilder, Martha Pool, and the heirs of Elbert Finch, suppose to contain three hundred acres and your petitioner further represents that the said Jonathan, and Anderson and Lewis Poole are of lawful age & the said Hardy, William, Caroline, Jackson and Calvin Poole are infants and to whom your petitioner pray a guardian and ____ may be appointed & your petitioners Jonathan, Anderson & Lewis Poole request that dower may be assigned the petitioner Ailey Poole their mother such being a true history of the facts of the case your petitioner Ailey Poole is advised & believes that she has a right to have her dower laid off in said tract of land & she therefore prays you worship to cause to be a writ of dower directed to the Sheriff of Wake County commanding him to summon a jury of twelve freeholders unconnected with the parties by consanguinity or affinity and disinterested who upon oath shall allot and set off your petitioner Ailey Poole widow as aforesaid one third part of said tract of land & provisions of which William Poole died seized of & possessed including the dwelling house & other out houses - and that the said sheriff and jury & sheriff report their proceedings touching the provinces under their hands & seals to the next term of this Court and that the guardian of said infants defendant answer this petitioner at this court (vis August term 1834) and your petitioner prays such other & further relief as the nature of her case may require & she will ever pray to.
