Wake County, NC - Petition of Mary Hubbard Strickland, 1860 ~~~~~~~~~~ State of North Carolina Wake county August term 1860 To the worshipful the justice of the said court The petition of Mary Hubbard Strickland widow of Bryant Strickland respectfully showeth to you ----- That her husband died in Wake county in 1860 of pneumonia in April leaving him our vizing the following children, Josiah Strickland, Samuel Strickland, Henry Strickland, Schezaid Hobbs wife of James W. Hobbs, James Strickland of full age and Needham Strickland, Gaston Strickland, Green Strickland, Hillard Strickland, Alonzo Strickland and Briant Strickland, Jr. infants, who are his only heirs at law your petitioner further requests that her said husband at the time of his death was seized in fee ---- of a tract of land that was in said county adjoining the lands of William Marshbourn, W. W. Hobbs and other citizens by estimations. Three hundred and thirty three acres. Your petitioner further requests that she desires to have her interests in the said land allotted to her in that area. She prays your worship to order a writ to be given to the sheriff ---- him summon twelve freeholders ----- with the parties named by ---- ----- or ---- and disinterested to view the a foresaid tract of land to allot and set apart to his children part there of including the dwelling house and all out buildings and improvements pertaining to the farm for the term of her material life, and to what ---- ---- owing in ---- Term of the Law. Mary is ---- your worship to order ---- with ---- of this petition to be filed to the said heir at law requiring them to appear at the next Term of this court and show cause if any ------, why the prayer of your petitioner should not be granted and your petitioner as in holy bound shall ever pray. Uttley Bryant Strickland (b. 1794) was a farmer in Marks Creek, Wake co. He died in April 1860 of pneumonia.
