Davis § Know all Men by these presents that I Penelope to § Caroline Woodward-Davis of the County of Wake John B. White § and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of one hundred dollars to me in hand well and truly paid by John B. White of said County the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given granted bargained and sold, and by these presents do give grant, bargain sell alien convey and confirm unto the said White his heirs and assigns forever the following Tract or parcel of land, situate in said County and bounded as follows viz - Beginning by an Ash on Richland Creek where said Davis land corners in said Whites thence running Westerly by a persimmon the courses of said Whites land seventy rods from the Creek to a Stake and stones on the road leading by Benjamin Holdings - thence as the Second line or course northerly twelve rods to a white oak on the Branch between the said Davis’s land and land recently purchased by said White of William Joplin - thence down said branch to the said creek thence down said creek to the first mentioned corner, making in all about Sixteen Acres, meaning hereby to convey all of my plantation East of the second mentioned line - To have & to hold, the said granted premises with all the priviledges and appurtenances unto the same belonging unto him the said white and to his heirs and assigns forever. And I the said Davis for myself, my heirs and assigns do covenant and agree to and with, the said White his heirs and assigns that I will warrant and forever defend the same, unto the said White his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of every and all persons whomsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal - this the Twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight hundred and forty four. her Signed Sealed and delivered § Penelope Caroline W. Additional Comments: Penelope Caroline Reeves married John Woodward on 22 Dec 1797 in Wake County. After his death she married Reuben Davis in Wake County in 1806.
