Witnesseth; that for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and Ninety Dollars, current money of this state, in hand paid, unto him the said Edward Hocut, and wife by the said James Roberts, the Receipt whereof the said Hocut and Wife, to be fully satisfied contented and paid by him the said James Roberts, for one hundred and thirty acres of land, lying in Wake County and State aforesaid, Begining at a Sasafras Stake in Bullard Fowlers line; thence South one hundred and six pole, to a post oak corner thence West forty two poles to a marked Fowler's corner, thence up the various courses . . . to a pine, in Thomas Prices line, thence North One hundred and sixty four pole, to a corner post oak, in Bullard Fowlers line, thence west Ninety five pole to the Begining. To have and to hold the said land, and all the appurtenances thereunto unto him, the aforesaid James Roberts his heirs and assigns forever the said land to be free and clear, at the sealing and delivering of these presents from him the said Edward Hocut and Ellenor his wife and for the true performance of the above said land, and Bargain'd premises we have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year above written. Signd Sealed and Delivered in the presence of us: Elmer Hensley and Edward Lee Signed: Edward Hocut Elenor (+ her mark) Hocut Wake County, February Term 1808 The within Deed from Edward Hocut and his wife Ellenor Hocut, to James Roberts was exhibited in Open Court for probate, and duly proven by the Oath of Edward Lee, and at the same time the aforesaid Ellenor Hocut, being in Court, it was ordered that George Brasfield Eq. a Justice of the peace for aforesaid County be appointed to take the private examination of the said Ellenor separate and apart from her said Husband touching the execution of said Deed, who reported that she the aforesaid Ellenor declared that she executed the same freely and of her own accord without the coertion of her Husband.
