Wake County, NC - Alexr. Erskine to Dr. Jones, 1813 Union, Monroe County, Virginia, October 7th, 1813 Dr. Jones Dr. Sir On the receipt of this you will no doubt be a little surprised to find the signature of a person with whom you have never had any acquaintance; but when you discover my object for addressing you, you will them be satisfyed. Sir, I have had it in contemplation for some time past to engage in the study of Physic & having heared a good character of you as a Physician and Raleigh as a place I have chosen it for that purpose provided. I shall be as well pleased with the terms of living, as I think I will be with Raleigh. You will therefore do me a particular favour in letting me know, as soon as you possibly can, whether or not you yet take students? What will be your fee, for what sum boarding can be had in that place, as my going to that Country, will be in great measure depend on these things. By complying with this you will very much oblige, your friend. Doct. Calvin Jones. } Alexr. Erskine ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
