Wake County, NC - James Harvey Impressment, 1811 Raleigh, NC - June 21 The following paragraph is extracted from the narrative of a young man lately escaped from impressment on board of an English vessel, which appears in the Charleston Gazette of the 5th inst. "I left James Harvey, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, at Cadiz, on board a British Gunboat, No. 12, on the 11th of April last. He had been impressed from the 4th of June, 1810." Our readers will remember that the subject of young Harvey's impressment was agitated in the papers of this city during the last winter. It was then undeniably shewn, in the Minerva, that Harvey, so far from being a native of Raleigh, was not even an American - but a native of Scotland - probably of Greenock. We are authorised to assert this as an unquestionable fact. Harvey is a Scotchman; and we mention this, not because we do not abhor and execrate impressment in every shape, but because we wish every question to stand upon its proper footing, and to be decided according to its real merits.
