Wake County, NC - Heavy Rain in Wake County, 1811 Raleigh, NC - Oct. 25 Our oldest inhabitants do not recollect a greater and more incessant fall of rain than was witnessed in the forepart of the present week. The losses sustained by the farmers and others in this vicinity are very considerable. Capt. Theophilus Hunter had two mills on Walnut creek washed away, leaving scarcely a trace behind. William Hill had on the same creek a saw and grist mill, together with fodder, corn, fences, &c. swept off. Isaac Hunter's saw and grist mill on Crabtree shared a similar fate. Wm. Boyland had a bridge carried away, 15 or 20 head of fatted hogs, corn, fodder, hay, fences, &c. Joseph Gales' paper mill dam broke, and his plantation otherwise injured. Walter Rand's mill was carried away, and in it a quantity of wheat. Others have sustained considerable losses in fencing, fodder, hay, &c. We have not heard from the river, but expect that the damage is considerable. Ten or fifteen bridges, of different water courses in this county, have been carried away or damaged as to render them impassible.
