Jacob M. Rogers The Standard of Raleigh, July 23, 1862 THE DEATH OF PVT. JACOB ROGERS Died, at the Winder Hospital, Richmond, Va., of brain fever, JACOB M. ROGERS, the first-born son of JAMES W. and MARY ADELINE ROGERS, in the 19th year of his age. He was a private in Company K (Raleigh Rifles) 14th Regiment, North Carolina Troops. Inspired by a feeling of patriotic love for his own native land, he entered the service of his country as a volunteer in the defence of the rights of the South in May 1861, before he had attained his 18th year. His last hours cheered by the presence of his father, were peaceful and apparently painless. His remains were brought home for interment.
