Capt. -Gen. Ashe 's Orders To N. C.Militia
  (From Hall's WILMINGTON GAZETTE of Thursday, Oct. 26, 1797
   The Detachment of 7,268 men, to be drawn from the Militia of the State, are 
to be arranged into Two Brigades commanded by a MAJOR GENERAL. WILLIAM R. 
DAVIE, is appointed to take Command of the Detachment drafted under my orders 
of the 1st of September last, and BRIGADIER GENERAL STEPHEN MOORE will 
consider themselves as appointed on duty, in the Detachment; and receive his 
orders accordingly -- MAJ. GENERAL DAVIE will issue the necessary orders, and 
take the most effectual measures to have the Detachment completed and returns 
made as soon as possible.
