Inscribed on the Roll of North Carolina at the rate of 20 dollars 00 cents per annum to commence on the 4th day of March 1831(could be 1834) Certificate of Pension issued the 3rd day of Sept 1831 or 32 (hard to make out the number)and Seuht? GW Haywood Raliegh Arrears to the 4th of March 1833 $ 40.00 Semi-Anl. allowance ending 2 Sept 10.00 total 50.00 Revolutionary claim Act June 7, 1832 Recorded by W.G. William clerk book 4? vol. 6? page 35. This is very hard to read as it is in print and in handwriting. In his Declaration it reads: State of North Carolina County of Wake Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed Term the 21st day 1832 ---- On the 21 day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand ought hundred and thirty-two persons atty appears before me John A. Mason Esq now an acting Justice of the Peace duly constituted and appointed in and for the county of Wake and state of North Carolina Christopher Babb resident in and for the county of Wake and State aforsaid aged ninety-five years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on His oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benifit of the act of congress passed June the 7th day 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as his iin statia? (to wit) He was born in Virginia Nansemond County as this seventh day of October AD 1736. That he serced in revolution war a common soldier the first tour he served as volunteer under Captain Denton of Franklin County, N Carolina for the term of three months which he completed and served out and was under the command of Colonel Long of Halifax County NC The second term or tour he was drafted in Wake County NC for three months and was commanded by Captain Martin Lane of Sasa (hard to read) County and served for the period of three months and was under the command of Colonel Briton of Wake County for a short time and then under Colonel Fannin of Orange County in the trip or tour he marched from Wake County courthouse to Hillsborough thence to Salisbury in NC then to Camain (Gamain) South Carolina thence to the high hills of Santio and was put under the command of General Green and Sumptner from there he marched to the Eutaw Springs and was in that battle which took place to the best of his recollection early in September 1781 The third tour he furnished a substitute for three months named James Trowell which tour was perfored by said Trowell this substitute was delivered to and recieved by Colonel Outon of Wake County NC He was again drafted and furnished a substitute named Zacheriah Lawrence for the term of three months the named of the officer to ---- said Lawrence was delivered he does not now recollect He was drafted and furnished for three months which makes his fifth tour and furnished a substitute but does not recollect the names of which substitute was deliverd to and recieved by Colonel Outon of Wake County NC and was to serve for the time of his draft which was for three months your declarent is far advanced in life his memory impared by age and he is unable to give at this distance of time a more perfect sketch of his service He has a dischage from the army but the same has been lost in or mis ???? so that he cannot produce it and he cannot provide no person who can testify as to his service the said Christopher Babb for this declares that he has lived in Wake County ever since the revolutionary war and that he does not now or ever did claim any pension from this or any other state or the general goverment of the United States and the foresaid Christopher Babb hereby relinquishes any claim whatever to a pensioner annutity except the present and declares his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state Sworn to and subscribed this Christopher (+) Babb day and year above mentioned test John A. Mason JP 21st August 1832 We Thomas Hudson Zacheriah Wimberly and John Vaughn residing in the county of Wake and state aforesaid hereby certify that we are well accquainted with Christopher Babb who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration that we believe him to be ninty five years of age that he is reputed & believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier in the revolution and that we concur in that opinion Sworn and subscribed the day and year afforesaid signed Thomas Hudson Zachariah Wimberly John (+) Vaughn (+ Mark) John A. Mason JP 21 of August 1832 And the said John A. Mason Justice of the Peace as afforesaid does hereby declare his opinon after investigation of the matters and after putting??? the interogaties prescribed by the (ink stain) department the above named applicant Christopher Babb was a revolutionary war soldier and served as he states and he further certifies that it appears to him that Thomas Hudson Zacheriah Wimberly and John Vaughn who have signed the certificate and residence of the county of Wake and state of afforesaid and are enviable persons and that their statement is intilled to credit And I do further certify that the applicant Christopher Babb cannot from bodily infirmity and old age attend the court for the purpose of making this declaration as for any other purpose and he cannot provide the attendance of witnessess without much inconvience and expense John A. L. King clerk 1767 State of North Carolina Wake County Declaration in order to obtain the benifit of the act of Congress ??? June the 21st day of 1832 On the 21st day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty three personnally appeared before me Isaac Hudson Esq now an acting Justice of the Peace duely constitued and appointed in and for the county of Wake and State of North Carolina Christopher BABB resident on and of the county of Wake and state aforesaid aged ninety six years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the benifit of the Act of Congress ??? June the 7th day 1832 That he entered the service of the United States on the 15th of November 1779 and served a three month tour for until the fifteenth day of February AD 1781. and serviced under the officers as mention in the first part of my declaration ???? I entered the service of the United States in the tenth day of July AD 1781 and remained in service for three months and served until the Twentith day of October AD 1781 Ques: Do you know of any clergymen acquainted with your ??? and revolutionary service or any other persons in the neighborhood in the state who is acquainted with you and your revolutionary service Answer: I know of no clergyman in my neighborhood or in the state who is acquainted with my revolutionary service or any other person now living that spoke with me - but Nathan Upchurch Seth Tuinks(??) and Elega Wilson many of my neighbors move??? ????? ??? of my revolutionary service and ??? I cannot provide a clergeman affidavit because there is none in the neighborhood and none that I know of in the state acquainted with me and my revolutionary service Christopher + Babb (+mark)
