Brown, Clerk, Wake County, North Carolina, Serial number 32,383, Recorded in Book E, Vol. 6 1/2, Page 66. Transcribed copy of handwritten affadavit: STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA WAKE COUNTY On this 20th day of February, 1845 personally appeared in open court Daniel Marshburn a resident of the County and State afore said and maketh the following declaration in order to obtain a pension under the act of Congrefs pafsed the 7th day of June 1832 and after first being duly sworn according to law deposeth and sayeth on his oath that hi is 88 Eightyeight years old that he was a soldier in the Revolutionary war that he volunteered for three months and went down to Suffolk under Capt. Tho Cotton. and Col George Winn and Major Jerimiah Brown that in consequence of his old age he cannot recollect the year that that service was done in after that he was drafted and served four months that started under one Capt. Stevens who disserted Shortly after they started and their Lieutenant Nathaniel Harrell took command of the company and marched them to Faytettevill where the Company was there under Capt. Gilmore who was a continental officer and that they wer Commanded by one Major Firbush they wer then were marched from Fayettevill to the Peedee oposite Cheraw Hills where he was stationed untill his time was out, when he received his discharg from Major Firbush which discharge was destroyed by being washed in his pocket Shortly after his Return home and after they were discharged they were conducted Near home by one Capt. Bridges on account of the danger of the tories and suads of British and he further declares on oath that at the time he entered the service in the Revolutionary war he was a resident of the County of Hertford in NCarolina and that Removed in to wake County in or about the year 1797 where he has Resided Ever Since.
