S. TUCKER has never failed to fill his ice house with good ice from his pond. It takes 80 loads to fill the ice house. Saturday last thirty two horse loads were gathered from the pond, the thickness of the ice being two inches. The work was all done after dinner. While it was in progress, the ice being about half out a most remarkable thing occurred. A wild duck was seen at great height in the air. Suddenly, it changed direction from horizontal to perpendicular, seeing the pond and came across like a flash. It struck the ice with such force as to break its neck , and lay lifeless when Mr. JAMES BOYLAN walked out on the ice and picked it up. *** File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/wake/newspapers/majortuc39nw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/ncfiles/ File size: 1.4 Kb
