CASTLEBURY, STRUCK BY AUTO TUESDAY, DIED YESTERDAY [Special to The Observer] Raleigh Feb 2 - L.D. Castlebury, a well-known retired capitalist of this city died today shortly after noon. Mr. Castlebury was struck by an automobile yesterday afternoon in the door of a garage on Davie street and knocked down. Tom Johnson was driving the car and the accident was unavoidable. Mr. Castlebury stepped out into the doorway of the garage just as Johnson drove in. It was not thought that his injuries were serious and no uneasiness was felt by his relatives. Death came suddenly. Mr. Castlebury was 72 years old. He is survived by a widow, one son, Dr. F. D. Castlebury of this city and two daughters, Mrs. Joel G. Layton of Dunn and Mrs. J.C. Brantley of Raleigh. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon by Dr. T.W. O'Kelly of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Castlebury was a man of considerable wealth. He acquired it by patient unflagging zeal and the exercise of thrift and business acumen. He began his business career as a small grocer and eventually became a large landholder, one of his best properties in Raleigh was the Pullen building.
