WAKE COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - John Vernon Dalton, 11 Mar 2005

RALEIGH - John Vernon Dalton, 93, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at his home 
at Sunrise of North Hills. He was the son of the late John Loren Dalton and 
Addie Sellars Dalton. He was also preceded in death by two children, Sue 
Dalton Waldrep and Lt. Col. Robert Edward Dalton. He came to Spruce Pine in 
1935 as a linotype operator for the Tri-County News; then moving and retiring 
from the Raleigh News and Observer after 37 years of service. He also served 
as a glider pilot with the 415th Air Transport Squadron during WWII. He was 
a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Kathryn Dalton of Raleigh; a son, James 
Loren Dalton of West End; two sisters, Melba Dalton and Ruth Craig, both of 
Spartanburg, SC; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. 

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church. An 
additional memorial service will be held in Spartanburg on April 10. The 
family received friends after the service in the church parlor.
