Sept. 2, 1841   Charlotte Journal
   DIED, in Raleigh, on Tuesday afternoon last, of paralysis, JOSEPH GALES 
SR., ESQ., in the 81st year of his age, the original Founder and Proprietor of 
the Raleigh Register and Father of the present editor. The deceased was a 
native of Eckington, England and emigrated to this Country with his family in 
the year 1795. He remained in Philadephia until 1799, and then removed to this 
City [Raleigh], of which he has been a resident ever since, with the exception 
of a few years that he spent with his older children at Washington City [D.C.].
